The Nile Necklace is named for the river that made a civilisation possible. Ancient Egyptians called the fertile land along its banks Kemet, the Black Land, after the dark soil left behind when the Nile flooded. Green belonged to this world too. It was the colour of new growth, fertility and life returning.
Made from rough peridot with a single reclaimed black pearl, Nile keeps the stones close to their natural forms. The peridot is bright, uneven and acidic in colour. The pearl is older, reused, and the only dark point in the necklace.
Ancient Summer is full of precious materials left wild. Nile is the clearest expression of that idea.
It is for the person who wants the ugly-beautiful version. Who prefers an olive to an emerald, weeds to roses, an overgrown garden to a manicured one. Who owns good clothes and wears them into the ground. Who has never understood why precious things are supposed to look pristine.
Designed and handcrafted in Cape Town, South Africa.
